One of SA’s most anticipated events, Bacardi Holiday Club took over the spectacular Welgelegen Manor, for the 4th time, this past weekend. Draped with huge inflatable balls, teepee tents and a giant flower peace sign, the theme ‘Summer of Love’ was clear.

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, this much loved festival sold-out in record time to 1,500 lucky ticket holders. Unlike most events, and to the delight of their attendees, this festival is all-inclusive, allowing festival-goers to leave their wallets at home and finally be free.

The Sound of Rum stage ignited the event on Friday with an impressive line-up of the best in SA house, amapiano, and qgom including the legendary DBN Gogo, Spontaneous, Banques & many more.

On Saturday attendees were woken up by a now-infamous cry ‘Vuka, Vuka, Wake Up, Wake Up’ accompanied by music and dances as a group that hadn’t slept summoned everyone else to join them. Festival goers donned large wigs, round shades, tassels, and bright colours to celebrate the swinging 60’s theme and headed to the iconic Casa Bacardi Pool Stage.

The line-up started off slow and gently eased guests into the spirit, but with unlimited Bacardi cocktails and a phenomenal line-up of DJ Kent and PH… by the end, people were popping off regardless of the light drizzle. Channel O kept spirits high with their 360 spin photography and karaoke stage – If the karaoke was good enough everyone applauded and sang along, if the karaoke was bad everyone applauded and sang along. The Summer of Love was felt and practiced by all.
