After years of friendship and professional ties, South African kwaito veteran Thebe Lenyora has officially joined forces with producer Hypnosis on a new track titled Music Is You. The project marks their second collaboration, following their earlier single The Slay Queen. This time, Thebe’s face graces the cover art, solidifying his presence in the venture.
How It All Began
The two first met years ago through music, with Thebe initially mistaking Hypnosis for an American DJ. Their connection deepened after a shared road trip to Botswana. Over the years, Hypnosis transitioned into the legal space, becoming Thebe’s business manager before returning to music production.
From Warrenton to National Fame
During the interview, Thebe confirmed a long-circulated story linking his hit “Philly” to the small town of Warrenton in the Northern Cape. The track’s inspiration came from Philly, a relative of his producer’s friend, further proving the deep cultural roots in his music.
Three Decades of Kwaito Excellence
This year marks Thebe’s 30th anniversary in the music industry. Reflecting on his journey—from early days alongside fellow Mafikeng talents to dominating South African dance floors—he hinted at wanting to document his career and the “crazy times” he’s survived.
The Legend Tour Announcement
To celebrate this milestone, Thebe will embark on The Legend Tour, kicking off on 27 September in Mpumalanga and wrapping up on 16 December at Carnival City. The tour will span all provinces, cementing his legacy as one of South Africa’s most enduring performers.
