On 30 August 2025, South African deep-house DJ and producer Caven Masetla, known as DJ Poizen, died in a fatal car accident near Polokwane, on the N1 via Ysterberg Mountain while traveling with fellow artist Chymamusique. The renowned producer survived but remains in critical condition in ICU. The crash reportedly claimed additional lives and was severe enough that one of the vehicles was engulfed in flames.

DJ Sbu, a prominent broadcaster and entrepreneur, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his shock and sadness. He revealed that he had recently—at the Durban July event—met Poizen and had planned to host him for a radio interview, plans now tragically unfulfilled. He wrote:
“Very sad news to wake up to the passing of my brother Poizen… I was looking forward to hosting you on the radio like we had planned…”
