Hospital Visit Honours Healthcare Workers in Her Hometown

Multi-talented singer and stage performer Mbali Ngidi marked Valentine’s Day with a heartfelt community gesture, visiting Osindisweni Hospital in the Ndwendwe District. The Emadweleni singer presented healthcare workers with appreciation gifts in recognition of their dedication, sacrifice, and service to the community.

A Personal Tribute Rooted in Family Legacy

Inspired by Her Late Mother’s Nursing Career

The initiative carries deep personal significance for the singer. Mbali is the daughter of the late nurse Delisile Ngidi, who served at the hospital for 32 years before her passing in 2023. It is also the hospital where Mbali herself was born.

“I grew up watching my mother dedicate her life to caring for others. Nurses and healthcare workers are the backbone of our communities, and this visit is my way of saying thank you. Valentine’s Day is about love, and to me, love means service, compassion, and sacrifice,”

she said.

Mbali was accompanied by Afrotainment boss DJ Tira alongside fellow Durban musicians. Together, they helped distribute gifts, engage with hospital staff, and create reflective moments documented through professional photo and video content for digital and media sharing.

Redefining Valentine’s Day

Highlighting Service, Gratitude, and Community Love

The visit aimed to shift the narrative around Valentine’s Day from romance alone to broader expressions of humanity and appreciation.

“They say charity begins at home. As I watch my career blossom, I want to thank the people who raised me and my community. My mother was buried on 12 February 2023, and doing this on February 13 means a lot to me,”

Mbali added.

KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane welcomed the initiative, highlighting its impact on morale among healthcare professionals.

“Healthcare workers are the backbone of our health system. Acts of appreciation like this uplift morale and remind our professionals that their service does not go unnoticed,”

she said.
