The renowned South African label has officially announced the release of Detour, the debut album from rising vocalist JayJayy, which arrived on 13 February 2026. The project marks a significant milestone for the young artist as she transitions from breakout singles to a full-length body of work.
Breakout Success Sets the Stage
JayJayy first captured national attention with the hit single Phesheya, produced alongside Mordecai. The track surpassed 10 million streams in 2025, positioning her among the youngest South African vocalists to achieve that milestone and solidifying her presence in the Amapiano scene.
A Fearless Musical Journey
Detour reflects a narrative of growth, ambition and self-discovery. Rooted in Amapiano and dance influences, the album blends soulful vocals with contemporary production while highlighting JayJayy’s development as both storyteller and performer. The focus track, Mngani Wami (Jaydecai), sets the tone for the album’s direction, with its official music video scheduled for release on 9 April 2026.

Background and Early Influences
Originally from Soweto, JayJayy — born Kamogelo Makoma Jaydrean Mokoti — began recording music at age 10 in Fleurhof, where a neighbour with a home studio introduced her to recording.
Her sound has been shaped by a diverse range of influences, including Lebo Mathosa, Lauryn Hill, Brenda Fassie, Erykah Badu, Bob Marley, Eminem, and Tupac. This wide musical exposure has helped her craft a versatile style that blends soul, trap, Afro-Pop and Amapiano.
Performance Roots and Artistic Growth
A natural performer, JayJayy formed a choir while in Grade 7 and pursued dramatic arts studies, experiences that shaped her confident stage presence. Today, that foundation is reflected in her commanding performances and evolving artistic identity as she steps fully into the spotlight with her debut album.
