South African music pioneer Kid Fonque has announced a major milestone for his independent record label, Stay True Sounds, which marks its 10th anniversary in 2025. Founded in 2015, the label has become a cornerstone of the South African house music scene, showcasing both emerging and established talent while pushing creative boundaries.
Taking to social media, Fonque reflected on the journey that began after his tenure as label manager at Soul Candi Records, expressing his gratitude and excitement for what’s to come.
“Born out of passion, persistence, and a constant love for music, this journey began…with a clear vision: create a platform for South African producers who made music from their soul,”
Fonque wrote.

Over the past decade, Stay True Sounds has built an impressive portfolio:
- Over 200 Releases: The label has spotlighted now-household names like Fka Mash, Dwson, China Charmeleon, beatsbyhand, and Nutty Nys, while also fostering innovative artists such as Atmos Blaq, El Payo, and Thabo Tonick.
- A Diverse Expansion: The creation of a sister label, STY TRU BTS, has opened doors for non-house genres, giving artists like Sio and EMAMKAY a platform for their distinctive sounds.
- Global Recognition: Stay True Sounds has hosted stages at international festivals like Defected Croatia and Malta, as well as the iconic Spring Fiesta in Johannesburg.
- Media and Partnerships: Collaborations with Ballantine’s have brought Stay True Sounds to a global audience through monthly live streams, while international media coverage has amplified the label’s reach.

- A Fresh Identity: The label has unveiled a new logo designed by French illustrator Ashes 57, inspired by its recent collaboration with South African sneaker and streetwear store ShelfLife.
- Highly Anticipated Releases: Fans can look forward to albums from Charles Webster and several South African artists, a collaborative project between Sio and UK’s T. Williams, and the annual Stay True compilation.
- Major Kickoff Single: The year will begin with Jullian Gomes’ reinterpretation of Blackwhole’s classic “1000 Seconds,” set to release on February 7.
