He needs no introduction. His name is Vulela MaWeekend, and if you’ve been to a club in Johannesburg, you’ve probably seen him — decked out in an Uber Eats outfit, dancing, throwing money in the air, and hyping up the crowd like no one else. We finally got to sit down with him after trying for two years, and what followed was a raw, unfiltered conversation about who he is, what he does, and why he does it.
“Who is Vulela?”
“Useless guy,”
he laughs.
“But not really useless — just someone who lives for the moment.”
Molifi Nakedi, as he is known off-stage, is far from useless. He is an entertainer, club host, music collaborator, and personality who has turned a simple idea — walking into clubs with an Uber Eats bag — into a cultural statement.
From Nightclub Owner to Cultural Phenomenon
Vulela’s story isn’t just about late-night parties. Before becoming a household name, he owned nightclubs in QwaQwa and organized festivals around Johannesburg. But when COVID-19 hit, he lost almost everything — his assets, cars, jewellery, and businesses.
Instead of quitting, he reinvented himself. “There’s no sense,” he says about his Uber Eats persona. “And that’s genius, right? I just wanted to bring something different to the clubs.”
The Uber Eats Bag Era
For many, the first introduction to Vulela was seeing him in clubs, dancing with a full Uber Eats delivery kit.
“I always have to share what club life is about. People must feel entertained, they must feel part of something,”
he says.
He admits that lately he’s switched things up, sometimes ditching the iconic bag and carrying a new one. “Whatever happens, happens,” he shrugs. “I’m always evolving.”
Champagne, Cash & Club Culture
One thing people can’t ignore is his habit of literally throwing money into the crowd. “I give everywhere I go,” he says. “It’s about energy — when people feel your energy, they remember the night forever.”
For Vulela, this is not about showing off — it’s about creating a shared moment of joy. “I want everyone to feel like they’re part of the celebration.”
Music, Collaborations & What’s Next
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve probably spotted him in music videos and club visuals. He recently appeared on the Amapiano hit “Malacosta” alongside DJ Maphorisa, Mark Khoza, and others. “Of course, we knew it was going to blow up,” he says with a grin.
And there’s more coming. “I might drop an EP,” he teases. “Everything with a chance — I’m just playing with ideas right now.”
Final Word from Vulela
Before we wrap up, we ask him what’s next:
“Keep on pushing. Come around, ladies and fanatics. This is a couple’s affair,” he says with a laugh. “Shout out to everyone supporting the movement. We’re just getting started.”
