DJ Maphorisa Joins Black Coffee With Special Afro House Set

by admin

DJ Maphorisa has been announced as the latest addition to Gallo 100: The Sound of a Century, which takes place at Cape Town’s Grand Parade on 15 December 2026.

The South African DJ and producer will deliver a specially curated Afro House set, joining previously announced headliner Black Coffee for a festival marking Gallo Record Company’s centenary.

The event celebrates 100 years of recording, preserving and championing African music, bringing contemporary performers into conversation with the sounds and artists that shaped the continent’s musical history.

A Special Afro House Appearance

Maphorisa’s addition brings another influential figure in South African dance music to the Gallo 100 stage. His work spans house, Amapiano, hip-hop and Afro House, reflecting a career built on collaboration and an ability to move across genres.

For this appearance, the focus will be firmly on Afro House. His specially curated set will give audiences an opportunity to experience that side of his musical range while connecting the festival’s historical focus with sounds shaping dancefloors today.

Alongside Black Coffee, Maphorisa forms part of a line-up that places contemporary African electronic music at the centre of the centenary celebration.

Celebrating a Century of African Sound

Gallo’s catalogue stretches across jazz, mbaqanga, isicathamiya, maskandi, gospel, reggae, soul, kwaito and house. The festival will draw on that heritage to explore how African music has evolved and connected listeners across generations.

Rather than focusing solely on the company’s past, Gallo 100 will also spotlight the continuing development of African sound, with contemporary performances forming part of a broader celebration of musical memory and cultural expression.

Maphorisa’s Afro House set adds to that connection between the label’s recorded history and South Africa’s current dance music landscape.

Music, Archives and Live Performance

Gallo 100 is being designed as a festival experience combining live performance, archive-led storytelling and contemporary African music.

Cape Town’s Grand Parade will provide the setting for the celebration, bringing a century of musical history into a shared public space on 15 December.

More artists are still to be announced as the programme builds towards the event, with Black Coffee and DJ Maphorisa among the first names confirmed for the centenary stage.
