South African producer and DJ FKA MASH has released his debut full-length album, EXITECHNO, via his own imprint, September Bloom, through Platoon. Bringing together disco, deep house and minimalist techno, the project marks a significant milestone for an artist whose work has consistently moved across genre boundaries.
Rooted in his upbringing in Soweto, the album draws together years of musical exploration, balancing dancefloor grooves with the warmth and detail of a more intimate listening experience.
From Soweto to International Dancefloors
FKA MASH’s relationship with production began in childhood, experimenting with music software on a friend’s computer. By the age of 12, that curiosity had developed into an obsession, laying the foundation for his approach to arrangement and sound.
A major breakthrough arrived with his Glitch Dub remix of Sculptured Music’s “Sad To Think”, which won Remix of the Year at the 2019 Dance Music Awards SA and subsequently earned a South African Music Award nomination.
While his early work found support within both deep house and Afro house circles, his catalogue gradually revealed a wider range of influences.
International remix commissions followed, including Stimming’s “Pidgeons” and Everything But The Girl’s “Caution To The Wind”. Releases on Defected and Snatch! Records further introduced his warm synth work to audiences beyond South Africa.
His Re-Amathambo Remix for jazz pianist Nduduzo Makhathini also earned a Remix of the Year nomination at the 2026 South African Music Awards, adding to a career that has taken him to clubs across Europe and the Middle East.
A Sound Built Around Warmth and Restraint
On EXITECHNO, FKA MASH gives his varied influences space to coexist. Disco textures, deep house rhythms and minimalist techno arrangements form the basis of a record built around subtle movement and hypnotic grooves.
The album draws on a musical sensibility associated with artists such as DJ Koze and Isolée, with playful details and warm textures woven into its production. Those influences sit alongside the soulful instincts that have long shaped FKA MASH’s work.
The result is an expansion of his established sound, with an emphasis on melody, atmosphere and arrangements that can carry both a club set and a late-night headphone session.
“Make Believe” Introduces the Album’s Direction
Lead single “Make Believe”, featuring Samuell Miller, offers an entry point into the project.
Built around a low-slung vocal house groove, the track pairs atmospheric production with an intimate vocal presence. Its combination of soulful melody and understated rhythmic detail introduces the balance that runs throughout EXITECHNO.
Local Collaborators Meet the Wider Electronic Underground
The album brings together South African voices and international collaborators, each contributing to its range of moods and textures.
Berlin producer Dave DK, whose catalogue includes releases on Kompakt, Pampa Records and Moodmusic, joins FKA MASH on “No Walls”. Biishop contributes vocals to “Love Is In The Air”, while KVRVBO appears on “Wonder”.
On “Disco Bouncer”, Fatso 98 brings his affinity for classic disco and R&B textures into the album’s deep house framework.
The collaborators also include Thando Zide on “Mampatile”, Tahir Jones on “Our Thing”, LVN on “Nights Alone” and Felix’N on “Feel Redux”. Their contributions extend the project’s connections between soulful songwriting, electronic production and contemporary South African club culture.

The debut gathers the qualities that have shaped his career—careful arrangement, emotive melodies and an ear for groove—into a full-length statement, giving listeners a broader view of his identity as a producer.
