Nia Pearl and Goon Flavour Bring Amapiano and Lekompo Together

Nia Pearl and Goon Flavour have released “Murhandziwa”, a new collaboration blending soulful Amapiano with Lekompo. Out today, Friday, 6 November 2026, the single celebrates love while offering a preview of Nia Pearl’s musical direction ahead of her debut album, planned for January 2027.

Arriving as South Africa heads into the festive and wedding season, the release brings together Nia Pearl’s expressive vocal approach and Goon Flavour’s interest in exploring connections between contemporary South African sounds.

A Meeting of Two Musical Worlds

For Nia Pearl, the collaboration offered an opportunity to explore a different sound while retaining the emotional storytelling central to her work.

“Lekompo has such a beautiful energy and character, while soulful Amapiano gives you room to express emotion and tell a story,” she explains. “Bringing the two together felt like a natural and exciting opportunity to create something that is both vibrant and soulful.”

She says working with Goon Flavour brought different creative energies into the studio, allowing the pair to develop a record with its own identity while maintaining a connection to the music her audience knows.

Goon Flavour shares that interest in experimentation, describing the collaboration as a balance between movement and emotion.

“It’s a song you can dedicate to your person and still enjoy when the beat takes over,” he says.

A Love Song for Shared Moments

At the centre of “Murhandziwa” is a celebration of being loved and appreciated. Nia Pearl hopes listeners will make the song part of their own experiences, from wedding celebrations to quieter moments with someone special.

“I think sometimes we get so caught up in life that we forget to celebrate those special connections,” she says. “With Murhandziwa, I want people to feel good.”

That focus on connection also informs how she approaches songwriting and performance. Rather than tying the track to a single occasion, she hopes it will find a place at family gatherings, on wedding playlists and wherever people come together.

Building on the Connection of “Shela”

Born Peleka Lwana in eMthatha in the Eastern Cape, Nia Pearl draws on influences spanning Amapiano, Afro-soul, jazz and neo-soul. Her collaborators have included Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, Kelvin Momo, Sam Deep and Mas Musiq.

Reflecting on the success of “Shela”, she says the experience reinforced how music can take on a life beyond the studio.

“A song can become much bigger than the studio experience you had when creating it. It can become part of people’s everyday lives, celebrations and memories.”

That lesson has encouraged her to trust her creative instincts while remaining conscious of the relationship between an artist and their audience.

“For me, it’s about evolving without losing my identity,” she says. “I want my fans to grow with me and be excited about the different musical experiences I bring to them.”

Looking Ahead to Her Debut Album

“Murhandziwa” arrives ahead of Nia Pearl’s debut album, which is planned for January 2027. She describes the forthcoming project as an opportunity to introduce listeners to more of the artist behind the singles and collaborations.

“There will be different sounds, different moods and different expressions of me as an artist,” she says. “I want to showcase my versatility, my love for soulful music and my willingness to explore.”

The album will also draw on her personal growth, with vulnerability and confidence among the qualities she hopes to communicate.

For now, “Murhandziwa” introduces another collaboration in that journey, bringing her soulful approach into conversation with Lekompo.
