South African artist Airburn Sounds brings together Amapiano, disco influences and township pride on his new single, “SOWETO”, featuring CPT Switch, Nation 365, Predope The Vocalist and Tshepo Keyz.
Released on 9 October 2026 through Airburn360, the collaboration draws inspiration from Soweto’s social life and cultural energy, with a relaxed groove intended to connect with listeners across generations.
Capturing the Feeling of Soweto
For Airburn Sounds, the track began with a desire to translate the township’s atmosphere into music. Its inspiration comes from everyday scenes: lively streets, weekend gatherings, music drifting from different corners and people coming together.
“‘Soweto’ is a celebration of the energy, personality and spirit that makes Soweto so special. I wanted to create something that feels fun and effortless — a song you can dance to, enjoy with your friends and family, and hear something familiar in, regardless of your age,” Airburn Sounds says.
That intention shapes a record built for different settings, from a daytime drive and a family gathering to an evening on the dancefloor.
Amapiano Meets Disco
“SOWETO” pairs an Amapiano foundation with subtle disco influences and mellow textures. The approach gives the song a contemporary feel while drawing on rhythms intended to offer a sense of familiarity.
“We brought together Amapiano, a touch of disco and a mellow groove, and the different artists added their own flavour to the record. For me, this song is about capturing that feeling of being in Soweto — vibrant, alive and always moving,” he says.
The production places emphasis on an easy-going rhythm, allowing the song to work as both a dance track and a soundtrack to more relaxed moments.
A Collaborative Celebration
CPT Switch, Nation 365, Predope The Vocalist and Tshepo Keyz each contribute to the single’s collective character, with Tshepo Keyz also credited for additional keyboard work.
The collaboration reflects the sense of connection at the centre of the song’s concept. Different musical personalities come together around a shared tribute to the township and the people who give it its character.
Soweto’s longstanding relationship with South African music, including Kwaito and Kasi Rap, provides a cultural backdrop for a release rooted in the current Amapiano era.
Music Across Generations
Reaching different age groups is part of Airburn Sounds’ intention for “SOWETO”. Its Amapiano elements speak to contemporary dance audiences, while the disco touches and softer groove are designed to welcome listeners beyond the genre’s usual following.
The result is a release centred on shared enjoyment, whether listeners choose to dance, sing along or let it accompany time spent with friends and family.
