South African Amapiano producer and DJ Sfarzo Rtee has released EMPINI, an album exploring resilience, ambition and the challenges that accompany personal and professional growth.
Meaning “at war” or “in battle” in isiZulu, the title reflects the pressures of finding a place in an increasingly competitive music industry. For Sfarzo, the project centres on protecting his musical identity while pushing his creativity forward and building a lasting legacy.
Across its themes, EMPINI acknowledges both the satisfaction of reaching new milestones and the commitment required to keep progressing.
Following the Success of ‘Rethabile’
The album follows Sfarzo’s 2025 project, Rethabile, which explored love, heartbreak and healing through soulful melodies and intricate production. According to the release announcement, the project debuted at number one on Apple Music, marking an important milestone in his career.
While Rethabile focused on emotional vulnerability, EMPINI shifts towards determination and renewed purpose. That change in perspective connects the two projects, tracing a journey from reflection and healing to confronting the challenges ahead.
Building on His Sgija Foundations
Originally from Polokwane, Limpopo, Sfarzo developed his musical identity in Pretoria, establishing a distinctive voice within Amapiano’s Sgija movement.
Projects including the House of Sgija series and The New Testament have helped define his approach to rhythm, melody and layered production. His work alongside Kelvin Momo, Josiah De Disciple and DBN Gogo has further strengthened his presence within the genre.
On EMPINI, those foundations remain central, with the album moving between soulful introspection and dancefloor energy.
The project features Jinger Stone, Mashudu, De Rose, Portia KM, Tracy, Baby S.O.N, Mkeyz and Sipho Magudulela, bringing a range of voices and musical contributions to its broader themes.
‘Ndimi Ndimi’ Brings Romance to the Dancefloor
Leading the release is “Ndimi Ndimi,” featuring De Rose and Portia KM. The focus track offers a playful take on romance, built around the excitement of wanting to be someone’s favourite person.
Its flirtatious storytelling and energetic Amapiano groove introduce a lighter mood within an album shaped by perseverance and ambition. The song taps into the shared joy of the dancefloor, balancing the project’s more reflective themes with a sense of freedom and fun.
According to figures supplied with the release, Sfarzo’s TikTok teasers for the track attracted more than 600,000 views and 100,000 likes ahead of its official arrival. That early engagement has helped build interest in the song and the wider album campaign.
A Personal Declaration of Intent
At its core, EMPINI considers what it takes to keep growing as an artist. It recognises the sacrifices behind achievement while presenting Sfarzo as increasingly assured in his creative direction.
