A New Chapter in Storytelling
After years of creating music about romantic love, Mizz Dee steps into a new era with Ngiyathokoza — a touching tribute to the unconditional love and support of parents and caregivers.
A Song of Gratitude and Reflection
“‘Ngiyathokoza’ is about me being grateful and thankful to my parents for raising me with love and a warm home,” she explains. “But it’s not just for me – it’s for everyone. Whether you were raised by your biological parents, a step-parent, a guardian, or even an elder sibling – this song is a reminder to pause and show gratitude for those who shaped us.”
Inspired by Her Own Family
Coming from a close-knit nuclear family with both parents still together after more than 39 years, Mizz Dee acknowledges the privilege of stability. She also reflects on the reality faced by many of her peers who grew up in single-parent or blended households, inspiring her to honour all caregivers who love and nurture against the odds.
More Than a Comeback
With her signature soulful delivery and introspective lyrics, Ngiyathokoza is both a celebration and a recognition of life’s unsung heroes. The track serves as a call for healing, appreciation, and deeper connection to our roots.
Early Life & Musical Roots
Born in Warmbaths (now Bela Bela), Limpopo, Mizz Dee grew up surrounded by music. Influenced by her grandmother’s gospel singing, her father’s playful Michael Jackson impersonations, and her mother’s eclectic record collection, she also found inspiration in icons like Lebo Mathosa and TK.
From School Stages to National Screens
Raised in Johannesburg and Midrand, she attended Midrand High School, where she often performed at school events. Her early media exposure included guest presenting on YoTV and youth shows that built her confidence as a performer.
Professional Breakthrough
Her career began in 2012 with Better Days under Soul Candi Records. She has since become a respected voice in South African house music, collaborating with artists like Afrikan Roots, Gino Brown, Jay Sax, The Rurals, and Andy Compton.
A Performer with Emotional Depth
Mizz Dee has graced platforms like ENCA, SABC 3 Afternoon Express, SABC 1 Live Amp, and YoTV, connecting with audiences through both her vocal power and heartfelt presence.
Beyond the Music
Off-stage, Mizz Dee is a devoted mother, sister, and community nurturer. She creates lifestyle content around parenting, travel, and family-friendly experiences, while also mentoring and supporting women in her circle.
