After a hiatus from the music business following the heartbreaking loss of her husband and long-time collaborator Mampintsha, Babes Wodumo is set to return with her highly anticipated EP Mabeshingo, dropping on 17 October.
A Powerful Prelude: Three Singles Dropping Ahead of the EP
To build momentum for the release, Babes will unveil three singles on Friday, 3 October:
- Sip n See ft Madanon, Jay Music, Don Edward, Frost, Sk, & Sundile
- Ekhoneni, a joint collaboration with Lelowhatsgood featuring Rifle Deep
- Ngakuthanda Kahulu ft UshuniWasemzini, a Maskandi-inspired track showcasing Babes’ versatility and personal artistry
A Dedication of Love and Resilience
“I took time to reflect on life’s events that happened in my life. I appreciate the love I have been getting from people appreciating my talent and music. They also showed love during the difficult times of losing my husband Mampintsha. This new work is dedicated to him, the people of South Africa and the world. Thank you for the love and support,” said Babes Wodumo.
From Wololo to the World
Since shooting to fame in 2015 with the platinum-certified hit Wololo, Babes Wodumo has remained a household name. She was featured on the Black Panther soundtrack and earned nominations for Song of the Year and Breakthrough Artist at the MTV Africa Awards in 2016.
Reclaiming Her Power Through Music
Though personal tragedy led her to retreat from the spotlight, Babes reignited her creative fire during a Content Connect Africa song camp in August 2025, collaborating with Gqom’s new generation. The result: Mabeshingo, an EP about reclaiming power after loss, honoring her legacy, and solidifying her reign as the Queen of Gqom.
