“I Know Who My God Is” — Chymamusique Shares Emotional Health Update

South Africa’s beloved Deep House producer and DJ, Chymamusique, has once again opened up about his ongoing battle to recover from the life-threatening car accident that changed his life earlier this year.

In a heartfelt post shared on his social media pages today, the artist wrote:

“Going for my 7th operation today. I’m tired but I’ll keep fighting because I know who my God is, we are gonna see God’s healing soon 🙏🏾🫂 Thanks to those who are supporting me in many ways.”

His words come just a day after he launched a BackaBuddy campaign to help ease the financial and medical burdens brought on by months of intensive surgeries and rehabilitation.

“By popular demand I was asked to open this BackABuddy campaign to reduce a bit of load, do it voluntarily 🫶🏽🙏🏾, a little help goes a long way 🙏🏾,” he posted, sharing the campaign link with followers and fans.

The Crash That Changed Everything

Chymamusique — real name Collen Mmotla — was involved in a devastating car accident in August 2025, an incident that tragically claimed the life of fellow DJ DJ Poizen. The impact left him with severe injuries that required multiple operations, including emergency brain surgery.

In previous updates, Chyma revealed the physical and emotional challenges of recovery, sharing that part of his skull had been removed in surgery and that he was learning to regain strength and mobility. Despite the pain and fatigue, he continues to share messages of faith and perseverance with his followers.

A BackaBuddy Campaign Born Out of Love

The newly launched “Post-Accident Disability Medicine Fund” aims to support his ongoing treatments, mobility aids, and living costs as he undergoes a long rehabilitation journey. Fans and industry peers have responded with an outpouring of generosity — from emotional tributes to direct donations.

The campaign reflects a sobering reality within the entertainment industry: the lack of financial safety nets for artists facing medical crises. Chymamusique’s openness has sparked conversations about mental health, medical coverage, and the need for community-driven support systems in South African music.

The House Music Family Stands Tall

Messages of encouragement have poured in from across the music landscape, with some of the country’s biggest names showing their support online.

DJ Kaylow wrote,

“Chyma, you’re a warrior. We’re all behind you — take your time, we’ll hold the stage for when you come back.”

DJ Fresh added,

“Our brother is fighting hard. Your journey inspires us, Chymamusique. Let’s get you back stronger.”

Meanwhile, Shaun K shared,

“Sending love and strength to you, Chymamusique. House music needs your soul-sound — this is just a pause, not the end.”

Their messages echo the collective sentiment of an industry united behind one of its most respected talents — a producer whose soulful sound and humility have left an indelible mark on South African electronic music.
