Durban DJ and producer Argento Dust is putting South African listeners at the centre of his latest project, No Foot Print, expanding on the club sound that has defined much of his career.
Speaking to TheJournalistDJ.com at his Johannesburg launch, Argento Dust described the release as his first album and explained why he wanted to create a body of work that speaks directly to audiences at home.
“Let me do something for Mzansi,” he said. “Let me do something for SA listeners.”
A Project That Took Longer Than Expected
According to Argento Dust, the project was originally intended for release last year. However, release delays and the process of securing the right collaborators pushed it into 2026.
“To be honest, this album was supposed to be released last year,” he explained. “I had to make sure I’m getting the right features.”
That attention to the guest lineup was an important part of completing the project. During the interview, he named collaborators including Section Five, Kususa, Village Guru, Zee Nxumalo and Blxckie.
Bringing His Sound Closer to Home
For Argento Dust, No Foot Print offered an opportunity to broaden how listeners and fellow producers understand his music.
He explained that many DJs and producers associate him with club records that connect internationally. This time, his intention was to place greater emphasis on South African audiences.
“Most of the DJs or most of the producers, they know me as the one … who’s doing bangers … internationally,” he said.
The project adds another dimension to that reputation, reflecting his desire to make music with local listeners firmly in mind.
Exploring Beyond the Club Banger
The conversation also touched on his musical evolution, with The Journalist tracing his journey through Afro House and Gqom towards more vocal house material and explorations of 3-Step.
Asked about the expectations of DJs who have followed his harder club productions, Argento Dust returned to the purpose behind the project: creating something for his country.
His response framed No Foot Print as an extension of his identity, with room for both international dance floors and audiences closer to home.
“I’m not only doing … international music,” he explained. “I’m also doing … local music.”
A Personal Milestone
The Johannesburg launch marked a milestone for a producer whose career has developed through individual records and collaborations.
With No Foot Print, Argento Dust is bringing those experiences into a larger body of work, guided by a clear intention: to give South African listeners a project made with them in mind.
