South African producer Thabo Tonick has released his debut album, Sun God, via Stay True Sounds, bringing together 3-Step, deep house and experimental electronic sounds in a project guided by creative freedom.
With more than two million career streams to his name, Thabo enters a new chapter with an album that draws on his adventurous approach to rhythm, unconventional arrangements and interest in pushing house music beyond familiar patterns.
A Debut Built on Creative Freedom
On Sun God, Thabo allows ideas to develop without confining them to a particular genre. The album moves between bass-heavy productions, layered electronic textures and warmer melodic moments, with his approach to rhythm providing a thread throughout.
Explaining the thinking behind the project, Thabo says:
“It’s about trusting the ideas, no matter how crazy they might seem or sound. Don’t overthink where they fit. Make them anyway.”
That philosophy shapes an album that places experimentation at the centre of his musical identity.

Singles Set the Tone
The road to Sun God began with releases that introduced different sides of the project.
July’s “Bigger Than Us” established a raw, bass-heavy foundation and earned placement in curated house music playlists on Spotify. August’s “Listen To The Kids” followed with a more patient approach, using shifting rhythms and layered instrumentation to reveal another dimension of Thabo’s production.
Together, the singles offered an early indication of an album willing to move between contrasting moods and sounds.
Hypaphonik Collaboration Brings 3-Step Energy
Released on 2 October, “BassTrap” saw Thabo team up with fellow South African producer Hypaphonik for a futuristic 3-Step collaboration.
Driven by hypnotic percussion, weighty bass and dancefloor energy, the track provided a further preview of the album’s direction. It also highlighted the creative connection between two producers exploring the possibilities of South African electronic music.
Their partnership extended to the stage earlier this month, when they delivered a back-to-back set on the Stay True Sounds stage at Spring Fiesta 2026.
‘Floating’ Reveals a More Melodic Side
The album’s focus track, “Floating” featuring KayDeep, brings a warmer feel to the project.
Its melodic textures offer a contrast to the darker, bass-driven intensity of the preceding singles, showing a more restrained side of Thabo’s production. The collaboration adds to the album’s range while maintaining its emphasis on rhythm and musical exploration.
A Statement of Artistic Identity
Across its changing tempos, influences and moods, Sun God is tied together by Thabo’s fascination with texture and unexpected sonic combinations.
His debut captures a producer willing to trust his instincts and develop a sound on his own terms, adding his perspective to South Africa’s evolving electronic music landscape.
Sun God is available now on major digital streaming platforms.
