Deep house conversations with Bongani Zulu

by admin

How Bongani Zulu takes on his music and describes his style of play. Always looking to convey an introspection, his selection is the outlet of his true feelings and thoughts.

Growing up within a musical household that comprised his father’s eclectic collection of RnB and Soul, instrumental funk and jazz and synth-laden 80’s pop, he took these seeds of inspiration with his own love of House music and video-game music and ended up with a wide spectrum of musical influence.

Today, these are the jewels of wisdom that make up the sounds of his music: syncopated percussion, brooding chords, rhythmic basslines all with suave synth work…culminating within a skipping foot-shuffling beat.

As an active contributor and member of his local community, he has been through the highs and lows of the music scene in his hometown of Pretoria.

As a DJ, his love of music transcends only playing it at nightclubs, patios and friendly gatherings. As a producer and promoter, he finds many ways to convey the message he strives to express.

Experience comes profoundly with Bongani as he has supported some of the biggest names in the industry including internationals such as Just Her, NOIR, Oliver Koletzki, Oliver Schories, Tim Green, Claptone and Kris Davis as well as some of the biggest names in the South African industry such as Culoe De Song, Ryan Murgatroyd, Strange Loving, Dogstarr, Sound Sensible, Fabio, Lazarusman, Mvelo, Weston & Engine, Trancemicsoul, Metro Ticket, LEEU and Kyle Watson to name a few, while performing at Durban’s, Pretoria’s and Johannesburg’s biggest festivals and venues.

“For me, there are music enthusiasts and music lovers. An enthusiast will play something on AUX, a lover will pass the AUX to hear something new” – Bongani Zulu.
