Hot off the heels of his European tour, Gqom King, DJ Lag, continues to pave the way to his debut album, Meeting With The King, revealing the latest single available on his album pre-add, Into Ongayazi out now via Black Major.
The six-plus minute track is a club-ready hypnotic jam that transfixed crowds at the recent London Boiler Room Festival last year. The single sees the genre’s originator slowing things right down as part of his creation of Gqom 2.0.
It is a sonic mixture that is as much rooted in the African music and tribal chants that have been part of DJ Lag’s music since the early days as it is fearlessly exploring fertile and unmined electronic music frontiers.
Into Ongayazi follows “Lucifer” with Lady Du and the remix a month later, creating a thrilling path to DJ Lag’s debut offering where music lovers can expect more singles from the Gqom and Amapiano pioneer building up to the highly anticipated release of Meeting With The King in 2022.
The plaudits of DJ Lag don’t stop with his latest recognition coming from YouTube Music as he joins their #YouTubeBlack Voices Class of 2022 having been selected amongst thousands of applicants making the list as only one of four producers from Africa.
The #YouTubeBlack Voices honour is given to artists that speak to the vastness of the pool of Black genius. Limitless in genre, identity, talent, innovation, and creativity, their voices and the music they make encapsulate the global experience of Black people – past, present, and future.
DJ Lag is featured amongst artists from the United States, Brazil, Australia, South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, United Kingdom and Canada, with his billboards appearing in New York and Los Angeles.
