From House Music Breakthrough to Self-Discovery
Known for hit collaborations such as Invitation to Dance and Teka Munike, RubyGold reflected on her journey into the music industry, revealing that while her breakthrough during the 2010 FIFA World Cup era was a dream come true, she was not emotionally or professionally prepared for the sudden spotlight.
The vocalist explained that despite years of working towards success, she was still discovering her artistic identity and struggled with questions about genre, branding and navigating the politics of the music business.
‘Mixed Masala’: Celebrating a Multicultural Heritage
RubyGold opened up about her unique heritage, describing herself as a South African with Portuguese-Mozambican roots on her mother’s side and Griqua ancestry through her father.
She said her latest EP, Mixed Masala, was intentionally named to celebrate every part of her identity and to challenge assumptions people often make about her background.
Rather than choosing one culture over another, the singer says she proudly embraces both influences as part of who she is.
