South Africa’s music scene is set alight with the release of “Kwelanga,” an evocative new track by Bassie, M-Touch, and Ranger, featuring the talents of Amaza and Zimmy.
“Kwelanga,” which debuted to widespread acclaim in October 2023 on Showmax’s hit drama series “Adulting,” is now officially available for streaming and download on all major platforms.

The track’s haunting beauty resonated deeply, first making waves on Showmax before taking TikTok by storm. The song inspired over 84,000 video creations on the platform, collectively amassing more than 11 million views.
It has also been Shazamed over 97,000 times and has garnered over 200,000 views on YouTube, underscoring its widespread appeal.
Bassie, the song’s principal vocalist, sheds light on the emotional genesis of “Kwelanga.”
Despite the track’s upbeat, groove-inducing vibe, it is imbued with a deep sense of melancholy. Bassie reveals that the song was born from a period of intense personal struggle and heartbreak.
“I was going through so much pain; my heart was broken. I didn’t want to do anything, let alone sing,”
Bassie confides. It was her partner’s insistence that she attend the fateful studio session, where “Kwelanga” came to life, that propelled her forward.
The song’s title,
“Kwelanga,” which translates to “the setting of the sun” in isiZulu, metaphorically captures Bassie’s feelings at the time.
“All I could think about was how badly things were going,” she explains. “The sun was ‘going down’ in my life—there was no light in my career, in my studies. I felt like it was the end of the road for me, and that’s what I wrote about.”
Despite its origins in personal despair, “Kwelanga” has emerged as a beacon of connection and empathy, resonating with fans who find solace and understanding in its lyrics.
