South African Producer/DJ/Podcaster Thulasizwe Mngomezulu, known as UMngomezulu, has just announced the release of his upcoming single, Sizani. The track, a collaboration with the talented singer and songwriter ilovelethu, is set to drop on 7 February 2025 and is already available for pre-order via Something Emotional Recordings.
UMngomezulu, originally from KwaZulu-Natal and now based in Johannesburg, is celebrated for his ability to craft music that stirs emotions, even without lyrics. His unique sound draws from deep, afro, and melodic house, weaving ancestral and organic influences into his productions.
From Deepland to UMngomezulu
After completing a diploma in music production at the Soulcandi Institute of Music in 2009, UMngomezulu launched his career under the alias “Deepland.” During this period, he gained recognition for his deep, soulful, and afro house tracks, releasing music with the Johannesburg-based label Music, Myself, and I. He also contributed remixes for labels such as 695 Records, Tainted House, and Afrocentrik Musik.
In 2019, Mngomezulu reinvented himself, adopting his ancestral clan name and releasing the Through Deep Waters EP, a deep organic house project that marked a new chapter in his musical journey. Since then, UMngomezulu has collaborated with acclaimed artists like China Charmeleon and KVRVBO, producing and remixing tracks for labels such as Deepershades, Candid Beings, Deep Obsession, and Afromove.
