Renowned South African DJ, Prince Kaybee, finds himself embroiled in a heated online controversy with former Idols South Africa contestant, Botlhale Phora, regarding allegations of song theft.
The feud ignited when Botlhale Phora took to social media, accusing Prince Kaybee of appropriating his song without permission. In a social media post that quickly gained traction, Phora claimed,
“#Prince_Kaybee stole my Song! You see this trending song, I sent it to him in 2021 now he’s using my melody without contacting me, lol he even blocked me on TikTok now.”
In response, Prince Kaybee vehemently denied the accusations, demanding evidence to support Phora’s claims.
“WHERE IS THE SONG???”
Prince Kaybee retorted.
“I’ve never received a song from you and you don’t have my personal email that I use. Play the song!!! We want to hear the similarities!”
When Phora posted the song in question, Prince Kaybee countered, stating,
“This is not even in the same key, the chord progression is not even in the same key😭😭😭, and the melody isn’t the same.”
He further defended himself, citing his extensive experience in music production and dismissing any notion of plagiarism.
“I’ve produced Charlotte, that inspired Love is blind and other hit songs even before that boy got out of school,”
Prince Kaybee asserted.
Acknowledging his initial approach, which included the use of profanity, Prince Kaybee expressed regret, admitting,
“I shouldn’t have.”
However, he remained steadfast in his denial of any wrongdoing, emphasizing the distinction between Phora’s song and his own body of work.
“Listening to what Idols SA Botlhale Phora posted still baffles me how this can be stolen from 2017,”
Prince Kaybee remarked.
“I still maintain that I don’t know your song till now, never received an email from you or communicated with you in any shape or form.”
As tensions continue to simmer between the two musicians, Prince Kaybee urged for a cessation of the dispute, reiterating his commitment to his craft and artistic integrity.
