KwaZulu-Natal-born vocalist Mawhoo is bringing her Secret Garden experience to Durban for the first time, promising a full-day celebration of live music, fashion, food, culture and entertainment on Saturday, 28 November 2026.
The homecoming edition will take place at Munies Hockey Club in Greyville, with Mawhoo set to headline alongside a live band and a selection of local and national artists.
Durban Gets Its First Taste of Secret Garden
Ahead of the November event, Mawhoo offered Durban a first glimpse of the Secret Garden experience during a special media evening held at Maison this week.
Hosted by Zisto of East Coast Radio, the intimate gathering brought together members of the media, creatives, friends and family while introducing the atmosphere and creative direction Mawhoo plans to bring to the city.
Among those in attendance were Mawhoo’s mother, Nkosazana Daughter, Orchid Musiq and Maison owner Benny Maverick, alongside members of Durban’s wider creative community.

Mawhoo Wants Fans to Experience Her Beyond the Screen
At the centre of Secret Garden is Mawhoo’s desire to create a closer relationship between artist and audience through live performance and genuine human connection.
With artificial intelligence and other technologies increasingly influencing how music is created, consumed and experienced, Mawhoo says she wants Secret Garden to place the human side of artistry firmly back at the centre.
“Even though AI exists and technology is changing the way we experience music, I still want my community to hear my voice and experience me authentically. I want to be close to my people, perform with a live band and give them an experience where they can feel the music and connect with me,”
says Mawhoo.
More Than Just a Concert
Rather than building the event solely around performances on stage, Secret Garden with Mawhoo has been conceived as a broader lifestyle experience that evolves throughout the day — beginning in the afternoon before moving through sunset and into late-night entertainment.
Guests can expect gourmet food, premium beverages, VIP lounges, brand activations, fashion showcases, interactive experiences and curated photo moments, all presented against a garden-inspired backdrop.
The concept is designed to bring together music lovers, creatives, entrepreneurs and culture enthusiasts while connecting entertainment with contemporary African lifestyle, fashion and creative expression.
A Homecoming Moment for Mawhoo
Bringing Secret Garden to Durban also carries personal significance for the singer.
Born Thandeka Nontobeko Ngema and hailing from Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal, Mawhoo began singing in church as a young teenager before pursuing music professionally.
She broke through to a wider audience in 2019 with “Umshado” featuring Heavy-K and has since worked with some of South Africa’s leading artists and producers, including DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small and Master KG.
Her growing catalogue and distinctive vocal style have helped establish her as one of the recognisable female voices within South Africa’s contemporary music landscape.
