Four Years Later – A Catch-Up With The Amapiano Queen
The last time I spoke to Pabi Cooper, she was still fresh in the game, a newcomer with dreams bigger than her stage. Fast-forward four years and she’s no longer just a promising talent—she’s a powerhouse, a young woman shaping Amapiano while holding her own among industry heavyweights.
When we caught up at the launch of Focalistic and Ch’cco’s BOATS album, her energy was radiant.
“I feel so good. I feel so blessed,”
she said warmly, as if the whirlwind of success hasn’t taken away her grounded nature.
Flying the Flag for Pretoria
Pabi’s feature on the BOATS project is a point of pride for her, especially considering the company she keeps on the tracklist.
“I’ve been part of their journey, especially the making of the album. I saw how much hard work they put into this project. I’m really proud of them and honored to be one of the few females on the album. There are only three of us—Nkosazana, DJ Seho, and myself. We’re representing Pretoria everywhere.”
Her contribution comes in the form of “Aina Rongo”, a song with a powerful message.
“Aina Rongo means there is nothing wrong. It’s about reminding people that life goes on, even when you’re going through your lowest moments,”
she explained.
Football at Heart
Longtime fans will remember that Pabi once dreamed of becoming a football referee. And while music took center stage, the love for the beautiful game never left her.
“Football will always be close to my heart. Even with my career now, I’ve kept it alive. I’ve got my show, Cooper FC Shutdown, which ties into that passion. So yeah, the dream evolved, but football is still part of my story.”
Giving Back to Matrics
Beyond music and football, Pabi has been intentional about giving back, especially to young women. Recently, she launched a matric dance sponsorship initiative, inspired by her role as an ambassador for Essence.
“I’m sending out 20 beauty packages—lip glosses and more. On top of that, I’ll be sponsoring five matric girls with full glam: makeup, hair, dress, car, everything. I know how stressful matric dances can be, especially for those who can’t afford it. For me, giving back is important because God says we should give back.”
What’s Next?
With the festive season approaching, fans are naturally curious about new music and performances. Pabi keeps her plans mysterious but promises there’s plenty to look forward to.
“I’m busy cooking. I don’t always like talking too much about what I’m working on because it’s still in the process, but just know—something special is coming. You guys know where to find me.”
As for hosting her own events, she’s in no rush. “Probably 2026 or 2027. God will decide,” she said with a laugh.
The Final Word
At just 24, Pabi Cooper has managed to carve her lane in a male-dominated industry, blending music, fashion, and even her love of football into a brand that resonates far beyond the stage. And in true Cooper style, she left fans with one last piece of wisdom:
“Don’t forget to put God first.”
