Lead Single Marato Fela Sets the Tone
Amapiano artist and DJ Mordecai is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated 16-track album MAMELLO, set to drop on 17 April 2026 across all major streaming platforms. Leading the rollout is the single Marato Fela, positioned as track nine on the album.
The title Marato Fela, meaning “love only,” reflects the emotional core of the record. The single leans into Mordecai’s signature style—smooth, laid-back rhythms layered with rich melodies—creating a sound that feels effortless while still deeply intentional. At its heart, the track centres love not just as a theme, but as a sonic experience.
Katlehong Roots Shape a Distinct Sound
Raised in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg, Mordecai credits his upbringing for shaping his musical identity. Surrounded by a variety of sounds from an early age, those influences now inform his creative direction.
“Growing up, I was surrounded by music all the time — different sounds and influences coming from home and the people around me,” he explains. “That really shaped how I hear music today and how I approached this album. Mamello is me bringing all of that together.”

A Consistent Rise in Amapiano
Since his 2024 debut Product of My Craft, Mordecai has steadily built momentum in the Amapiano scene. He followed up with Whispers of Love later that same year, and continued his run in 2025 with Blondeca and its deluxe edition.
During this period, he secured three platinum-certified records—Ngeke n’Believe’e, Phesheya, and Di Kgomo—cementing his place as a consistent and credible voice within the genre.
Expanding Sonic Boundaries on MAMELLO
With MAMELLO, Mordecai takes a more ambitious creative leap. The album explores broader sonic territory while maintaining the core elements that have defined his sound. It represents both artistic growth and a willingness to experiment without losing authenticity.
The project also features a curated list of collaborators, including Yumbs on Phakamani, alongside JayJayy, Thatohatsi, Blue Pappi, Rory Diamondz, and Sandy6eats. Each contribution adds a distinct layer to the album, reflecting Mordecai’s instinct for collaboration and musical cohesion.
Building a Legacy Beyond the Dancefloor
Known off-stage as Kabelo Mokoena, Mordecai continues to balance emotional storytelling with dancefloor appeal. Across four projects and multiple platinum records, he has cultivated a loyal fanbase in South Africa while steadily gaining international recognition.
