North West Province Set to Host South Africa’s Biggest Music Night on 15 August 2026
The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) has officially announced that the 32nd edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) will return to the North West Province on 15 August 2026, marking what industry leaders are calling a historic and emotional homecoming for the country’s premier music awards ceremony.
Widely recognized as the “Platinum Province” and the traditional home of the SAMAs, the North West has played host to some of the awards’ most memorable moments over the years. The return is being celebrated as a tribute to the province’s rich cultural heritage, longstanding support for the arts, and its significant role in shaping the SAMAs legacy.
The announcement was made on 27 May 2026 by North West MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Galerekwe Tsotso Tlhapi, who expressed excitement about welcoming the prestigious event back to the province.
“It feels like yesterday when we hosted the 28th instalment of the SAMAs here in North West,” said MEC Tlhapi. “This province has always been a proud and capable host, and we are ready once again to welcome the nation.”
She emphasized that the return of the awards is about more than just a single event, describing it as a celebration of the province’s cultural vibrancy, hospitality, and growing creative economy.
Preparations Already Underway
According to SAMA spokesperson Unati Gwija, extensive planning is already underway to ensure that the event delivers a world-class experience for artists, industry stakeholders, and music fans alike.
“We have already begun extensive stakeholder consultations in preparation for the SAMAs,” Gwija revealed. “There is a strong sense of excitement and unity as we return to the North West, a province that has proven itself as an exceptional host.”
The return has generated significant excitement across South Africa’s music and entertainment sectors, with many anticipating one of the most culturally significant and vibrant editions of the awards in recent years.
A Celebration of Music, Legacy and National Pride
With South African music continuing to enjoy global recognition through genres such as Amapiano, Afro-pop, Gospel, Hip Hop and Afro-House, SAMA 32 is expected to showcase the diversity, innovation and excellence that define the country’s evolving soundscape.
MEC Tlhapi has described the upcoming awards ceremony as a “homecoming edition” — a celebration of music, legacy, and the continued growth of South Africa’s creative industries.
As the countdown to 15 August begins, all eyes will be on the North West Province as it prepares to once again host the nation’s biggest night in music, bringing together artists, fans, and industry leaders for a celebration of South African talent on its grandest stage.
