Vulela Maweekend brought humour, playful interruptions and a surprising business revelation to his interview with TheJournalistDJ.com at Scorpion Kings Live at FNB Stadium on 19 September 2026.
While fans know him through his entertainment appearances and Amapiano collaborations, Vulela was quick to introduce another side of himself when the conversation turned to money.
“Don’t call me an artist. I’m a businessman,”
he said.
BUILDING HOUSES BEYOND THE ENTERTAINMENT SCENE
Asked about his business interests, Vulela pointed to construction and rental property.
“I do construction. I build houses,”
he explained, before referring to rental income during a characteristically animated exchange.
Although he did not clearly outline the size of his property portfolio, his message was that his work extends beyond entertainment. He also briefly mentioned his wife and children, offering a glimpse into the family life behind his public persona.

The conversation also touched on Vulela’s relationship with DJ Maphorisa, with The Journalist teasing him about his antics around the producer.
Vulela responded in the same playful spirit, describing Maphorisa as his brother.
“Because I’m his brother, that’s all. I give him stress,” he said.

Vulela’s recognisable delivery bag also became a talking point after The Journalist noticed that he was not carrying it during the interview.
Asked what had happened to the accessory associated with his entertainment persona, he had a simple explanation.
“It’s in my dressing room,” he said.
The brief response suggested that the bag remained part of his appearance that day, even if it had not joined him in front of the camera.

With Scorpion Kings Live providing the backdrop, Vulela said he had a performance on the day. But when the questions became more probing, he reminded the interviewer why he was there.
“Like I said, I came here to have fun today,” he said.
