South African entertainer, DJ and recording artist Uncool MC has released his debut EP, Sesikude, through gamma. today, 2 October 2026, marking a new chapter in his journey from commanding crowds as an MC to sharing his own story through music.

Meaning “we have come far,” the project reflects on his upbringing in Kwa-Thema, the relationships he has built within the music industry and the experiences that have taken him onto international stages.

From Kwa-Thema to the World

Born Thando Sibeko, Uncool MC began his career as an MC before expanding into DJing, songwriting, recording and live performance. With Sesikude, he brings those experiences together in a project rooted in his personal and artistic growth.

“The title meaning is centred around the journey I have taken through my art of music,” he explains. “This is a reflection of my decision to transition from an MC into a full performing artist and DJ.”

The EP draws on childhood memories of Kwa-Thema, east of Johannesburg, as well as his move north and the opportunities that followed through working with fellow artists and travelling abroad.

Finding His Own Voice Through Collaboration

Years of working alongside other musicians helped Uncool MC recognise the qualities he wanted to develop in his own recordings. Those collaborations became part of the foundation for his debut project, giving him space to identify his strengths and consider how to tell his story.

“Throughout the years of collaborations, I identified certain elements of myself that I saw as my strength to be able to start putting together my own music, which I later decided to express into a story that I’d put into a project,”

he says.

“This means everything to me because I put my all in order for people to experience Uncool MC the artist.”

“Setla” Sets the Pace

The release follows “Setla,” the single featuring DJ Maphorisa, Focalistic and Ntsako XVI, which arrived on 4 September and introduced listeners to the energy behind the EP.

According to information accompanying the release, “Setla” has reached the No. 1 position on South African radio and continued to chart ahead of the project’s arrival.

Uncool MC also performed the track at a listening session held at CÉ LA VI in Sandton on Thursday evening, 1 October. Media and industry guests gathered for an early preview of Sesikude, with the release announcement reporting a strong turnout and positive response.

A Career Built on Stage

Uncool MC’s performance history includes appearances at Cotton Fest, Piano People, Afro Nation and Fact Durban Rocks, taking his energetic stage presence to audiences in South Africa and abroad.

His catalogue, spanning his own releases and collaborations, has surpassed 140 million Spotify streams, according to the supplied artist information.

The debut EP adds a more personal dimension to that career, placing his experiences and ambitions at the centre of the music.

Positivity, Endurance and Consistency

For Uncool MC, Sesikude is also an opportunity to share the outlook that has sustained him throughout his journey.

“I want people to take positivity, endurance and consistency from the project, cause those are the elements that helped me come this far in this journey,” he says.

With his debut EP now released, Uncool MC offers listeners a closer introduction to the recording artist behind the familiar voice on the mic.
