Gaba Cannal Explores Faith and Spiritual Connection on ‘uYena, Pt. 2’

by admin

South African producer Gaba Cannal returns with uYena, Pt. 2, a reflective new EP that brings faith, emotion and purpose into his soulful approach to Amapiano.

Continuing the themes introduced in the project’s first chapter, the release draws on his roots in house music and Gospel, pairing dancefloor rhythms with storytelling centred on belief and lived experience.

‘uBufakazi’ Places Testimony at the Heart of the Project

At the centre of the EP is “uBufakazi”, a track exploring conviction and the power of testimony. Soaring vocals and carefully considered production carry its spiritual message, connecting personal expressions of faith with themes of trust and reflection.

The song brings together the elements central to Gaba Cannal’s musical identity: soulful chords, expressive voices and rhythms that give emotionally driven music a place on the dancefloor.

Bringing Spirituality Into Amapiano

On uYena, Pt. 2, spirituality runs through the music’s sound as well as its subject matter. Warm chords, layered percussion and rich vocal textures support songs concerned with purpose and spiritual connection.

The EP continues Gaba Cannal’s exploration of Amapiano as a space for emotional storytelling. Its emphasis on reflection and healing builds on the first instalment while keeping the movement and groove that anchor his production style.

A Sound Rooted in House and Gospel

Born Khaka Yena in the east of Johannesburg, Gaba Cannal is recognised as one of Amapiano’s pioneering figures. His background in house music and Gospel helped shape a sound defined by melodic depth, spiritual influences and dancefloor appeal.

Early in his career, he established Gaba Cannal Music, an independent stable through which he worked with producers including De Mthuda, Kwiish SA, Da Muziqal Chef and El’kaydee, alongside frequent collaborator Master Jay.

With uYena, Pt. 2, he continues that musical journey, placing faith and feeling at the centre of a project that invites listeners to move, reflect and connect.
