The beloved South African deep house DJ Judy Jay shocked her fans and her music industry colleagues as she announced her untimely retirement today on 15 November 2021.

Diesel South Africa has announced that Judy Jay, last year’s Diesel Denim Friday winner, and this year’s SUPERHERO DJ alongside Shimza, will be stepping down from her role as the Diesel Denim Friday representative with immediate effect. Diesel was clear that the decision was mutual and that the brand respected Judy Jay’s decision to leave the music industry for personal reasons.
“Judy Jay has been a phenomenal representative for Diesel and an inspiring role model for all emerging DJs in the country, especially young women. Judy Jay has decided to step back from the limelight and industry for personal reasons, and we respect this decision and call on all Denim Diesel Friday fans to afford her the space she has requested. We wish her all the best in her next endeavors,” says Derik van Wyk, Marketing Manager for Diesel South Africa.
Judy Jay thanked Diesel and her fans, saying: “It has been a wonderful experience to showcase my talent and an honour to be involved in finding the next generation of up-and-coming DJs. I humbly thank Diesel and all my fans, and I would like to encourage everyone to support Diesel Denim Friday and vote for the next winner.”
After a highly successful 2020, Diesel Denim Friday started as a platform to entertain customers in Diesel stores. It has evolved into a nationwide initiative to discover and offer new talent a much-needed podium to showcase their skills.
