For Sun El Musician

“It’s always been a dream of mine to showcase my music in an orchestra show, it’s such an honour to be part of such an amazing platform.”

This showcase will feature Sun El Musician behind his decks, musically supported by a 10-piece orchestra ensemble, as well as a female vocal quartet from Anchored Sound, and the voices of award-winning singer-songwriters Msaki and Simmy, celebrating women as we exit Women’s month and enter the birth of Spring.

The repertiore will feature some of Sun-El’s most loved and celebrated compositions such as “Qamata, Sonini”, “ubomi abumanga”, as well as “Into ingawe”. All orchestrated to showcase the magic and versatility of South African music and mastery.

Ofentse Pitse is a creative visionary who aims to create a dominant landmark of African expression in classical space, and beyond. With that being at the heart of her artistic music expression, the exploration of creating an artistic mastery with celebrated music genius, Sun-El musician, would not only be important as a showcase of how the two worlds of classic and mainstream music can be married; but also a celebration of the magic of South African polyrhythms.

Ofentse Pitse believes this show is vitally important because it is

“Work that requires immense collaboration, particularly through a music ensemble which can lose traction because of its intense economic requirements; Classical and choral music is then deeply affected as a result, leaving musicians who spend hours on ends refining and mastering their craft, not easily employable.” For her collaborating with the likes of Sun El Musician, Msaki and Simmy is “Using popular culture to popularize ensembled musical expressions such as these, create value and demand for such art experiences, and are therefore critically important to creating a sustainable ecosystem that will improve the economic health of ensembled music. Authentic African Music takes its heritage from ensembled musical expressions. So it is also culturally important and relevant for the commercialisation of indigenous culture.”

The project is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, Siemens Stiftung and Goethe-Institut. Visit the Music In Africa Live website here https://www.musicinafrica.net/MIAL
