The Festive Party season has arrived, and for Channel O, there’s extra reason to celebrate – they’re turning 25 this year. That’s right, it’s been 25 years of music over everything.
Channel O has been at the forefront of supporting and documenting African youth culture since cellphones were only for making phone calls, and throughout the years it has remained relevant, excellent and cutting edge.
From the heydays of kwaito to the era of Amapiano, DStv Channel 320 has kept it forever young, and we’re marking this milestone with a December to remember.
From dancing down memory lane with exciting music content, to specially produced and curated shows for the birthday month – 25 has never looked this good.
“It’s incredible that Channel O has been around for this long while keeping things fresh. The channel has played a pivotal role in shaping and influencing music and pop culture over the years. It has supported the craft of musicians – whether up and comers, or the big names – and has bolstered movements and subcultures by giving them the spotlight they deserve,”
says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
“We would like to thank the audience for their continued support for, and investment in, Channel O. Here’s to another 25 years,”
The home of music, some of the December programming Channel O has in store includes Own the O, where viewers are 100% in charge: in addition to music dedications, viewers produce, write and shoot the show’s dedication links on their phones, wherever they find themselves on the continent.
Own the O is not only a music entertainment show – it’s a social media platform for aspiring social media stars and fans of the channel. Catch it on Mondays at 5pm.
Viewers can also enjoy fan favourite My Top 5, currently in season 3. The show features big names including Nomfundo Moh, Priddy Ugly, Bonko Khoza and Una Rams as they take us through some of their favourite songs. Hosted by vlogger and influencer Naledi M, you can catch it on Wednesdays at 5pm.
