Kid Fonque is Head Of A&R at Defected Records

by admin

Kid Fonque is very proud to announce that he is in London, United Kingdom to take his new role as Head Of A&R at the biggest dance music label on the planet, Defected Records!

This comes off the back of making Mzansi musicians his area of expertise – along with complimentary international sounds via his Selective Sounds radio show on 5FM and his record labels Stay True Sounds & STY TRU BTS.

From DJ’ing at Carfax, 115 and 206 – stylistic borders are damned – to two volumes in the ‘Saladomundo’ series; working as Label Manager at legendary Soul Candi Records and then connecting with the growing South African house and beats scene via Stay True Sounds & STY TRU BTS – to Defected, his hard work has paid off.

Stay True Sounds has played a vital role in the breakthrough careers of so many talented SA house artists such as China Charmeleon, SGVO, Bruce Loko, Dwson, Jazzuelle, Hypaphonik, Chronical Deep, Fka Mash and so many more.

The label is not going anywhere – in fact, it’s only going to grow globally with the support of Defected. As part of my international journey, Stay True Sounds will be joining the Defected stable and I’ll continue to rep South Africa. Equally important, I have the opportunity to make numerous trips home each year to continue sourcing and plugging South African talent into Europe.

Says Kid Fonque.

“I have been impressed with Allan since his days at Soul Candi and his progress as Stay True Sounds label owner and Selective Styles radio presenter dovetail perfectly into Defected’s existing structure. Moving from South Africa to relocate in London shows real commitment I am excited by the prospect of working alongside him.”

Simon Dunmore – Defected Founder.

Current owner Wez Saunders adds:

“I am delighted to be welcoming Allan aka Kid Fonque to the Defected Team. As we continue to reshape the Music Team alongside Simon Dunmore (in his new A&R Consultancy capacity)”
