Celebrated South African DJ, MC, and motivational speaker DJ PRULUV has made a courageous decision to openly discuss her battle with mental health issues that include Clinical Stress, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, and ADHD.

Despite a decade of success in the entertainment industry, she revealed that behind the glamour and success, she struggled with these conditions in silence for years.

DJ PRULUV, known for her energetic presence on radio and at prestigious events, shared that she initially feared the stigma associated with mental health disorders, especially in the public eye. However, driven by a desire to destigmatize mental illness and provide support to others, she has launched the PRULUV WELLNESS initiative.

The initiative aims to create a safe space for people across various demographics, including unemployed adults, working professionals, parents, and individuals of all ages struggling with mental health issues. Through PRULUV WELLNESS, DJ PRULUV plans to offer resources, coping mechanisms, and motivational support to help others navigate their mental health journeys.

Reflecting on her own experience, DJ PRULUV disclosed that her journey with mental illness led her to moments of isolation and shame, even contemplating suicide at one point. Her openness about her hospitalization and treatment, including a month-long stay and subsequent medication, underscores the challenges many face in accessing mental health care, particularly in South Africa.

In her statement, DJ PRULUV emphasized the importance of sharing her story not only for her own healing but to inspire others to seek help without fear or shame. She highlighted alarming statistics from sources like UNICEF and the Employee Assistance Professionals Association of South Africa, which indicate a significant need for mental health support among children, young people, and employees across the country.

“I’ve been apprehensive about sharing information about my journey for the longest time because of the stigma attached to mental ailments,”

DJ PRULUV acknowledged.

“But I realized that it would be the greatest injustice to die and take the information and experiences of my journey of healing to the grave when they could have helped someone else.”

DJ PRULUV, who serves as a Cell C See Youth Ambassador, conducts mental wellness and motivational talks in schools, further extending her advocacy to the younger generation. Her initiative, PRULUV WELLNESS, is set to amplify these efforts and reach a broader audience through various platforms and resources.

As she embarks on this new chapter, DJ PRULUV invites others to join her in the journey towards healing and wholeness.

“It may be a lifetime of healing, but we strive for wholeness,”

she affirmed.
