In his own words, Mema_Percent describes the song:
“The inspiration for ‘Stayela’ comes from the things you need to make a good party—booze, nice clothes, and girls. But this particular party is missing the girls. I open the track with ‘ngaze ngaysola,’ which translates to me regretting coming to this party.”
The track paints a vivid picture of a party overrun by men, with only one girl present, leaving the atmosphere decidedly lackluster. In a standout moment, Lwazi asks Jakalas, “Where are the girls?”—a line that perfectly captures the song’s theme.
Mr Jazziq, an influential figure in Amapiano, adds his signature flair with dynamic ad-libs, responding to the party’s lack of female presence. His contribution, alongside the rhythmic beats of Officixl RSA, amplifies the track’s energy and relatability.
Mema_Percent’s journey to this debut has been anything but conventional. Born and raised in Soweto, his musical roots trace back to Grade 6, where he penned his first song and performed it until Grade 8.
Despite a passion for soccer that led him away from music through high school, fate intervened when friends reintroduced him to the studio.
A freestyle recorded and shared on social media caught the attention of JazziQ, leading to an ongoing collaboration that has significantly shaped Mema_Percent’s musical career.
