Amapiano powerhouse Tyler ICU caps off a phenomenal year with the release of his highly anticipated album, “Lucent.” This 15-track project showcases a deeper, more personal side of the award-winning producer, while still maintaining his signature dancefloor-igniting sound.
“Lucent” is a dedication to Tyler ICU’s grandmother, who played a pivotal role in his upbringing.
“The whole album feels like I’m being raised by her again,”
says Tyler.
“It shows growth and how she moulded me to be the man that I am today.”
Following his meteoric rise in recent years, with international acclaim for his innovative Amapiano soundscapes and global smash hit “Mnike,” Tyler ICU continues to push boundaries. “Lucent” delves into themes of spirituality, self-awareness, and growth, offering a deeper layer than ever before.
“On this album I tapped more on the spiritual/religious side from my grandmother’s teachings about God, Love and about the World,”
explains Tyler.
“You can hear the keys and the melody [on ‘Ngilimele’] which provides the intense feelings of being hurt and zoned out to the tune that touches your heart.”
A Global Amapiano Ambassador
Tyler ICU’s journey began in the vibrant township of Tembisa, Johannesburg. Influenced by his DJ father, he started producing as a teenager, quickly gaining recognition in the South African Hip-Hop scene. He co-produced multiple records before embarking on a solo career in 2020.
His breakout EP “Money Heist” featured the hit “Bella Ciao,” while his collaborations with DJ Maphorisa (“Banyana”) and his solo debut “Buya Nini” cemented his status as a leading force in Amapiano.
2023 saw the global phenomenon “Mnike,” a record-breaking hit embraced by international stars like Rihanna. Tyler ICU continued his dominance with guest features and production credits, solidifying his position as a global ambassador for Amapiano.
