It’s been half a decade since South Africans were last gifted a full project from one of the country’s most distinct and beloved voices. On 4 July, Samthing Soweto makes his highly anticipated comeback with a brand-new studio album titled Touch Is a Move, Good Morning.
A title rich with personal meaning
The album title draws from two deeply personal rituals. “Touch Is a Move” nods to a childhood rule from board games — once you touch a piece, you must make your move. It’s about commitment, presence, and courage. “Good Morning” reflects a daily ritual Samkelo began in 2023, where he greeted his followers each day with a heartfelt “good morning,” maintaining a meaningful connection through the simplicity of routine.
The new era begins with “Deda”

Anchored by the soulful electronic production of John Lundun, “Deda” is a poignant, poetic plea. It draws inspiration from the Nguni proverb “mabudede ubumnyama buvele ukukhanya”, which means “let the darkness retreat so that light may come.” The song explores the emotional complexity of loving someone drawn to the nightlife while praying for their safety — it’s tender, vulnerable, and unmistakably Samthing Soweto.
A powerful follow-up to “Amagents”
“Deda” follows the chart-topping, double platinum single “Amagents,” a heartfelt message from a father to his daughter. Both songs will appear on the upcoming album, promising a deeply emotional and musically rich experience.
