A defining moment in Benny Maverick’s career
South African DJ, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur Benny Maverick (Philani Kweyama) officially returns with his highly anticipated debut solo album, Valencia, released through gamma., the global music and entertainment company empowering African creativity and artists worldwide.
Valencia marks a powerful new chapter in Benny Maverick’s journey — a deeply personal body of work inspired by his late mother, Valencia, whose strength, courage, and resilience shaped the man and artist he has become.
Inspired by strength and resilience
The album’s title carries special meaning. Derived from Spanish and Latin origins, Valencia translates to “strength,” “vigor,” and “brave-hearted one.”
It embodies the spirit of Benny’s mother, who single-handedly raised her sons after the passing of their father.
“Valencia is my story, my tribute, and my declaration of growth,” says Benny Maverick.
“It’s about embracing your roots, pushing creative boundaries, and staying true to yourself.”
Lead single ‘Uyadladla’ out now
The project’s lead single, Uyadladla, is available today, Friday, 10 October 2025, alongside the album pre-order.
The full album officially drops on Friday, 14 November 2025, across all major streaming platforms.
From Durban’s dance floors to global stages
Benny Maverick’s journey began in 2008, when he emerged as a determined young DJ navigating Durban’s vibrant nightlife.
After struggling to secure bookings, he founded Goodsundae, a youth-centered urban event that quickly became a Durban institution.
His national breakthrough arrived in 2017 with the hit single Memeza featuring Dladla Mshunqisi, a dance floor anthem that paved the way for the SAMA Award-winning Omunye by Distruction Boyz.
In 2021, Benny teamed up with his brother DJ Stanky (Sizamavezi Kweyama) to form Kweyama Brothers, releasing the Platinum-certified EP Mpumalanga and the internationally acclaimed album Piano Over Poverty (2022) — a project that took them to Europe and cemented their global presence.
Beyond music: a cultural visionary
Beyond his success as an artist, Benny Maverick is a forward-thinking entrepreneur and cultural innovator.
He is the creative mind behind Saso’s House, a premium urban event celebrating Durban’s energy, and One Man Concert, his flagship annual Easter weekend production known for its grand performances and production excellence.
He also owns Maison Florida, a premium Durban restaurant, and leads Sundance Music and One Man Concert Productions, companies dedicated to advancing live entertainment in South Africa.
A new era of authenticity and growth
With Valencia, Benny Maverick steps into a bold new era — one that fuses gratitude, heritage, and innovation.
The album is a celebration of his mother’s influence, his Durban roots, and his artistic evolution.
“This album is more than music — it’s a reflection of my journey, my purpose, and my heart.”
