Amapiano star MaWhoo (born Ntobeko Ngema) was unable to perform at the RustyRocks Metro FM Tap Into 2026 New Year’s Eve event at Sun City Resort after an alleged racial incident disrupted her travel to the venue.
Incident Occurred While En Route
In a media statement released by MaWhoo Entertainment, the artist’s team confirmed that the incident occurred while MaWhoo was travelling to Sun City from a prior engagement. The statement notes that the circumstances were beyond the artist’s control and ultimately prevented her from arriving in time for her scheduled performance.
Performance Could Not Proceed
According to the statement, despite efforts made in coordination with the RustyRocks team, it became impossible for the artist to make the performance slot due to the disruption caused by the incident.
Apology to Fans and Stakeholders
MaWhoo Entertainment issued an apology to fans, patrons, and stakeholders affected by the cancellation, expressing regret over the disappointment caused on one of the biggest nights on the entertainment calendar.
Legal Action Being Considered
The statement further confirms that the team has identified the alleged perpetrators involved in the incident and is preparing to pursue legal recourse.
Official Statement
The media statement was issued on 1 January 2026 in Johannesburg by MaWhoo Entertainment, marking the first official communication regarding the artist’s absence from the high-profile New Year’s Eve event.
