Afro-Tech producer and entrepreneur G-Wash10, born Godfrey Hlapa, officially lifted the curtain on his new EP Panthera Onca (Beyond Music) at an intimate launch event hosted at his Midrand restaurant, Zorz. More than just a listening session, the evening marked a defining moment for the artist as he introduced a project that reflects both his sonic identity and his growing influence in South Africa’s Afro electronic music scene.
The Meaning Behind Panthera Onca
Named after the scientific term for the jaguar, Panthera Onca is a direct reflection of G-Wash10’s creative philosophy. For the producer, the jaguar symbolises power, instinct, and precision, all qualities he says are deeply embedded in his music.
He describes the project as an extension of both his personality and his production style, rooted in commanding drums, layered rhythm, and emotional intensity. By drawing inspiration from the jaguar, G-Wash10 channels a sense of strength and spiritual force into the EP, positioning the project as a bold statement of intent.
A Project Already Backed by Industry Giants
Before its official release, Panthera Onca had already earned the approval of some of South Africa’s most respected music figures.
G-Wash10 revealed that veteran music pioneer Oskido was among the first to hear the project. Their connection began organically through Zorz, where Oskido became a regular guest before their relationship evolved into studio sessions and creative exchange. That relationship opened the door for G-Wash10 to share early material, with Oskido offering his approval and support.
The EP also caught the attention of global Afro-house icon Black Coffee, who personally gave G-Wash10 feedback after receiving the project via email. According to the producer, Black Coffee described the EP as a “beautiful body of work”, a co-sign that served as a major affirmation of the project’s quality and international potential.
Built With Intentional Collaborators
Rather than chasing popularity, G-Wash10 says he chose collaborators based on musical alignment and chemistry.
The EP features contributions from Mr. Vince, Proceed, SB, and Tiffany, artists he selected for their ability to complement his sound and elevate the emotional direction of the project. The result is a body of work shaped by synergy rather than trend, with each feature contributing to the layered and immersive world of Panthera Onca.
An Afro-Tech Sound Driven by Emotion
While Panthera Onca is rooted in Afro-Tech, G-Wash10 says the EP deliberately stretches across multiple sonic textures, pulling from Afro-house, spiritual soundscapes, and deeper electronic influences.
He explains that each studio session is driven by emotion, with every track shaped by the mental and emotional state he enters the room with. That process gives the EP a dynamic range, allowing each song to feel distinct while still contributing to a cohesive listening journey.
This emotional approach to production has become one of G-Wash10’s defining creative tools, allowing him to avoid repetition while building music that feels instinctive, immersive, and deeply personal.
Zorz: The Home of Sound and Hospitality
The launch of Panthera Onca at Zorz carried added significance, as the venue is more than just a backdrop to G-Wash10’s music journey. It is his own establishment.
Located in Midrand, Zorz has become a cultural meeting point for music lovers, known for its curated atmosphere, elevated dining, and Afro-centric musical experiences. For G-Wash10, the venue reflects another side of his artistry, one rooted in hospitality, curation, and community-building.
As both artist and venue owner, he has built Zorz into a space where music and lifestyle intersect, creating an environment that mirrors the same intentionality found in his sound.
From Booked Artist to Booking Talent
G-Wash10’s dual role as both performer and venue operator has also given him a broader perspective on the music business.
Having experienced the industry from both sides, he says the transition from being booked to booking artists has revealed the emotional and logistical complexity behind live entertainment. From navigating artist personalities to managing punctuality, professionalism, and hospitality, he says the experience has sharpened his understanding of what it truly takes to create successful events.
That expanded perspective has not only made him a more informed curator, but also a more disciplined artist.
Beyond Music, Into Legacy
With Panthera Onca (Beyond Music), G-Wash10 is making it clear that this release is about more than just another EP. It is a statement of growth, intention, and evolution.
At the intersection of music, business, and culture, Godfrey Hlapa is building more than a catalogue. Through G-Wash10, Zorz, and Panthera Onca, he is shaping an ecosystem that places sound, experience, and legacy at the centre of Afro-Tech’s next chapter.
