South African actor and media personality Clement Maosa says he is entering a new chapter in his entertainment career as he expands deeper into music while celebrating the cultural rise of Lekompo music.

Clement Maosa Drops New Lekompo Project

Speaking during a recent interview, Maosa revealed that he recently released a new EP titled Lekompo Ke Nomoro Vol. 2 | Back to the Roots, which he says has already been receiving strong support from fans.

“Well, we dropped an EP called Lekompo Ke Nomoro Vol. 2 | Back to the Roots. It dropped about two weeks ago. It’s doing super, super well,” he said.

The actor, best known for his role as Kwaito on Skeem Saam, has increasingly become involved in South Africa’s growing Lekompo music movement, a genre and cultural wave rooted in Limpopo traditions and youth culture.

“Lekompo Is Culture”

Maosa used the moment to explain the deeper meaning behind Lekompo, describing it as more than just music.

“Lekompo is culture. Lekompo is who we are,” he said passionately during the interview.

According to Maosa, the term was once used negatively against people from Limpopo and their cultural identity, but artists and creatives have now reclaimed it with pride.

“It used to be like a derogatory word, but now we’ve turned it and we flipped the script. We said, ‘Okay, we’re gonna celebrate it.’ People used to look down upon us because of our culture, but now we’ve changed the game,” he explained.

Metro FM Awards Recognition Marks Historic Moment

The entertainer also expressed excitement over Lekompo being recognized at the Metro FM Music Awards for the first time.

“We’re very excited because today we’re celebrating the Lekompo category at the Metro FM Awards for the very first time, so it’s a big one. It’s a big win for all of us from Lekompo,” he said.

The recognition signals a major milestone for the genre, which has rapidly grown from a regional sound into one of South Africa’s most talked-about music movements.

A Message to Fans

As he continues balancing acting, hosting, and music, Maosa thanked supporters for embracing his transition into the music industry.

“My people, all I love you. Thank you very much for the support. Please stream our music,” he said.
