Rising Amapiano Star Honours a South African Music Legend
One of Amapiano’s most exciting young producers, Stixx, has paid tribute to the late South African music icon Hugh Masekela with the release of Market Place 2.0, a heartfelt reimagining of the legendary jazz musician’s classic, Marketplace. The new release bridges generations by blending the timeless spirit of Masekela’s original with the soulful, contemporary sounds of Amapiano.
Rather than reinventing the song, Stixx carefully preserves its emotional core, retaining Masekela’s unmistakable vocals, signature trumpet melodies and guitar arrangements while introducing his own Kwapi-inspired production style. The result is a nostalgic yet modern interpretation that introduces one of South Africa’s most celebrated songs to a new generation of listeners.
A Personal Tribute Inspired by Family
For Stixx, born Samuel Seloane, the project carries deep personal significance. The producer revealed that the inspiration behind Market Place 2.0 came from his late father, whose admiration for Hugh Masekela’s music left a lasting impact on his own musical journey.

The Bless Adds Soulful Depth to the Collaboration
Adding another emotional layer to the record is vocalist The Bless, whose distinctive voice has become a familiar feature alongside artists including Russell Zuma, Gaba Cannal, Thatohatsi and CowBoii.
Known for effortlessly blending jazz, soul and Amapiano influences, The Bless brings warmth and authenticity to Market Place 2.0, creating a genuine collaboration between past and present while complementing the song’s timeless message.
Stixx Continues His Rapid Rise in Amapiano
Despite being only in his early twenties, Stixx has quickly established himself as one of the genre’s most promising producers. Raised in Kwa-Thema, his musical foundation began as a church drummer before he taught himself music production, drawing inspiration from gospel, deep house and Afro-soul.
His breakthrough came after being discovered by DBN Gogo, who signed him to Zikode Records. Since then, he has contributed to Kelvin Momo’s acclaimed Amukelani project while releasing his own respected bodies of work, including Test of Time, Jazz Cruise Series Vol. 1 and Kings of Kwapi Vol. 1.
