One of Amapiano’s most influential production trios, ATK MusiQ, says the overwhelming support from fans is what inspired the group to reunite and release their ambitious new album, The Return 3, marking a new chapter after years of pursuing separate paths.
The trio officially unveiled the project during an exclusive listening session held at The Bannister Hotel in Braamfontein on Wednesday evening, where members of the media, industry stakeholders, content creators and invited guests gathered for a first listen to the highly anticipated album.
During an interview with TheJournalistDJ.com, the group reflected on their journey, the meaning behind their reunion and what fans can expect from both the album and an upcoming documentary chronicling their story.
Fans inspired the reunion
Speaking about what motivated the trio to return to making music together, the members said supporters never stopped asking for the original ATK MusiQ sound.
“We decided to come back together because people kept crying for the return of ATK MusiQ,” the group explained. “They told us they missed the old sound, and that motivated us to reunite and create what we used to do—but even better.”
The group added that fan support remained the driving force behind The Return 3, describing the album as a response to years of demand from listeners.
A journey six years in the making
Reflecting on their growth, the trio acknowledged how much had changed since their early days in the Amapiano scene.
The interview also marked a reunion between the artists and TheJournalistDJ.com, whose founder, Andile Mathobela, first interviewed the group six years ago while they were recording a mix with T-Man Xpress in Diepkloof. The artists spoke about the lessons, challenges and inspiration that shaped the new album over the years.
A documentary promises answers
Beyond the music, ATK MusiQ confirmed that an upcoming documentary will tell the full story behind the group’s rise, separation and eventual reunion.
According to the trio, the film traces where ATK MusiQ began, what happened during their split and how the new project came together. They also confirmed that the documentary will address questions surrounding former member Jivani, although they stopped short of revealing details ahead of its release.
“We explain everything in the documentary,”
they said, encouraging fans to watch it before asking further questions.
A 35-track statement
Rather than opting for a shorter release, ATK MusiQ chose to deliver a 35-track project, describing it as a comprehensive return that reflects both their signature sound and artistic evolution.
While several songs drew strong reactions during the listening session, the group singled out “Ibhubhu” as one of the tracks receiving the biggest response from early listeners, noting its emotional themes and powerful storytelling.
A message to supporters
Closing the interview, the trio thanked the fans who stood by them throughout their journey and called on supporters to stream The Return 3.
“We truly appreciate everyone who believed in us and inspired us to bring back ATK MusiQ. Please keep streaming the album and help take it to number one,” the group said.
With The Return 3 and a revealing documentary on the horizon, ATK MusiQ’s comeback signals not only the return of one of Amapiano’s defining production outfits, but also the beginning of a new era built on brotherhood, resilience and the unwavering support of their fanbase.
