Ndu Shezi on career and collabos with DJ Merlon & Mvzzle

Ndu Shezi is a performer born and bred in Durban, eNanda Newtown A. She began her professional performing career after matriculating at Bechet High School in 2006 where she went on to study Jazz and Popular Music at UKZN in 2007.

Since then she has worked with numerous artists, both as a backup singer and lead vocalist, performing a vast range of styles of music from rock to jazz, afro pop, gospel, etc. Amongst these artists are USA saxophonist Salim Washington, Neil Gonsalves, Swazi Dlamini, Naima Kay, Khaya Mthethwa, Mthunzi Namba just to name a few.

Ndu has also participated at the Standard Bank Youth Jazz Festival in Grahamstown 2008-2013 and performed at multiple Jazz Festivals in and around SA.

Having travelled to countries such as Zambia, Cameroon, Kenya, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique and the US, Ndu Shezi has developed a wide pallet for music over the years.

A finalist in the Popstars 2010 competition and a top 30 contestant in M-net Idols Season 8, also a former member of the Durban Gospel Choir, Ndu Shezi is no stranger to reality TV.

Winners of the first season of Clash of the Choirs SA in 2013 as a part of Team Khaya(choir), she has also backed big names such as Bongo Maffin, Khaya Mthethwa, Loyiso Bala . Ndu Shezi currently appears as one of the singers on Gospel Alive which is currently airing on Mzansi Magic every Sunday.

While she also performs with her band as a solo artist, she also has done shows from her original concept called Two Can Play That Game which features bass and vocals only.

A former member of Joyous Celebration, Ndu Shezi has recorded with numerous artists as a backing vocalist such as Loyiso Bala, but also as a solo artist featuring on Professor’s latest single “Unobenga” and continues to establish herself as a renowned vocalist in and around South Africa and Africa as a whole.
