The first ladies of New Money Gang; Nicole Elocin, Nia Pearl and Bontle Smith just released a brand new single titled Mbokodo.
Speaking about Mbodoko, this is what Bontle Smith from New Money Gang had to say,
“For me this song is about all mothers out there, a normal mom who is pushing, grinding to make sure her family is sorted. Kids are sorted. It is for single moms, young or old who are just working hard. We just want to thank our mothers for their prayers, for everything they have done in our lives. The influence, the impact that they have in our lives contributing to the women that we are today ”
About Nicole Elocin:
Growing up between the Eastern Cape and Kempton Park, Nicole Elocin started her music career at the age of 11 at a church choir. She started pursuing her musical career by attending studio sessions with local producers Tammy T and Plexx Roku. Having always been drawn to music, she took part in numerous talent shows in high school. At the age of 20, Nicole released one of the Amapiano breakout albums of 2020 titled “Money Heist” with the talented Tyler ICU.
The album included hit singles such as “Bella Ciao” and “Risky”. The “Bella Ciao” audio video has since surpassed 2 million views on Youtube and was featured on Apple music’s Top 100: South Africa playlist. Nicole has worked with numerous amapiano talents including renowned producer and Dj Maphorisa; Kabza De Small; Mas Music; Sha Sha; Nia Pearl and Mlindo the Vocalist.
About Nia Pearl:
Nia Pearl grew up in Umtata in the Eastern Cape. Her love for music started when she was in primary school. She says “ I found that I had a special attachment to music, felt like I belonged, gave me a sense of pride” In high school, Nia was part of the school choir, talent competitions and from there made sure she natures the talent and continued to work on it.
Nia Pearl went on to study contemporary music at Damelin University and completed her studies in 2013. After Varsity she started building a career as Nia Pearl. She has a record with the likes of Mobi Dixon, “ Ten Steps forward”- Kwanele, Kabza De Small “Nia Lo” ,Tyler ICU,Major League “ iMali”, Mas Musiq “Wami”
About Bontle Smith:
Growing up in Thembisa, Bontle Smith always knew she was going to become an artist and perform on Stage. Bontle started her musical career whilst attending the University of Johannesburg where she joined a contemporary singing group called “Current of Blackness” Bontle met DJ Giggs Superstar from Soul Candi which subsequently lead to her being featured on “Deep House Chronicles 4”, this sparked her love for house music which would form the foundation of her music career.
In 2018 Bontle collaborated with one of Africa’s biggest musicians, Cassper Nyovest on the song “Gets Getsa” off his “Sweet and Short (Deluxe Edition)” project. In 2019 Bontle met super producer and performer, DJ Maphorisa. Bontle joined DJ Maphorisa’s independent label Blaqboy Music. The newly signed artist proceeded to feature on various albums namely “Lerato” on “Scorpion Kings” ; ‘“Alalahi” on “PianoHub” and the smash hit “Sandton” off the multi-platinum album “The Return of the Scorpion Kings” Following the success of 2019, Bontle Smith proceeded to feature on popular singles in 2020 including the following featuring on MFR Soul’s “Amanikiniki”; “Sam Sokolo” off of Kabza de Small’s multi-platinum album “I Am the King of Amapiano: Sweet & Dust” and two features on Major League DJz “Pianochella!” project, leading vocals on “Sghubu” & “Thanda Wena” Bontle Smith continues to shine on every feature she is on and continues to collaborate with industry favorites such as DJ Maphorisa; Kabza de Small; Major League DJz; Mas Musiq and many more.
