We had a chat with the pioneering house producer and DJ, Jullian Gomes, as he was launching his latest album, Bruno & The Birds in Johannesburg recently.

Originally from Pretoria, Jullian became one of the leading figures in house music after the release of his debut solo single “Love Song 28 feat. Bobby” dates back to 2013 boasting a great animated video, Love Song 28 was a hit back then and still sounds super fresh today, especially on Late Dreamer with it’s sonically improved album version sheen.

He followed with some quality collaboration with Atjazz titled “Overshadowed”. Gomes has previously collaborated on two full-length albums: G.Family’s Break The Silence, and alongside Atjazz on The Gift The Curse.

In 2019, the Red Bull Music Academy alum released his EP Slow Poison, that traversed deep house, soulful house and neo-electronic-disco, with an array of featured talent from vocalist Zaki Ibrahim and Fka Mash to B. Bravo and spoken word artist Samantha Thornhill.

During lockdown he dropped Poisoned – born out of the frustrations of lockdown, as Jullian unraveled and rebuilt the original 8 tracks to amplify their mood to suit a chaotic 2020.

Speaking on Bruno & The Birds he says;

“My new album “Bruno & The Birds” has officially been added to my catalog. Thank you to everyone listening and sharing the music. The message behind the album is extremely important and sharing the music helps a lot of people deal with their demons and find ways to personal growth.”

He worked with the likes of Jordan Arts, Dwson, Kuniyuki Takahashi as well as Sio.
