Zandile Nxumalo, professionally known as Zee Nxumalo, earned the top honour following an impressive two-year run that’s seen her dominate the charts and airwaves with hits like Funk 55 (certified 5x Platinum) and Thula Mabota (certified Platinum). The 22-year-old Swazi-South African singer-songwriter has emerged as a leading force in Amapiano, blending infectious beats with soulful vocals and powerful storytelling.

Founded in 2022 by Hloni Modise, the Basadi In Music Awards were created to honour women across all sectors of the music industry—from performers to producers, DJs, stylists, journalists, and video directors. With its name rooted in the Setswana word for “women,” the BIMAs have quickly grown into a respected annual event that champions gender equity and creativity in music.

The awards span a wide range of categories, some determined by public vote and others by industry panels. Past winners have included big names like Tyla and DJ Zinhle, who each took home three awards in 2024.
