Limpopo rapper Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke—better known as Shebeshxt—has partnered with Virgin Music Group South Africa alongside long-time collaborator Naqua SA. The deal gives them global support while allowing them to remain fully independent and retain ownership of their music.
First release under the new partnership: “Rato Laka”
Released August 1, 2025, “Rato Laka” marks Shebeshxt’s debut single under the Virgin Music SA banner. Produced by Naqua SA, the track features star vocals from multi‑platinum sensation Zee Nxumalo and a standout verse from rising talent Slido Man.
A bold sonic fusion: Lekompo roots meet melodic bounce
“Rato Laka” blends the earthy textures of Lekompo with a smooth, melodic bounce. Shebeshxt delivers a raw, heartfelt verse dedicated to his girlfriend, while Zee Nxumalo contributes soaring vocals and Slido Man adds a dynamic feature—resulting in a vibey, emotional, and playlist‑ready anthem.

Shebeshxt: a rising force from Limpopo
Born Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo, Shebeshxt rose to prominence in 2021 with the viral TikTok hit “Ke Di Shxt Malume,” earning praise from established artists like Focalistic. He has since released two volumes of Topless Shxta’s Journey and collaborated with major names, including DJ Maphorisa on the 2023 single “Twerka.”
Controversial past and emotional resilience
Shebeshxt’s career has also been shaped by hardship. In May 2023, he faced legal charges for assault, attempted murder, and property damage—charges for which he was detained and later released; the firearm discharge allegations were dropped in October 2023. In June 2024, a tragic car crash claimed the life of his daughter, Onthatile; Shebeshxt and his partner were injured. He has since spoken about carrying this grief while pursuing his music career.
Next chapter: taking Lekompo global
With “Rato Laka” and his new deal, Shebeshxt is ushering in a fresh era for both his artistry and the evolving Lekompo sound. Virgin Music SA emphasizes that while he gains international infrastructure and support, Shebe and Naqua SA maintain creative control—a dynamic that promises to amplify their cultural impact.
In summary, “Rato Laka” isn’t just a debut under a new label—it’s a statement of intent. As Shebeshxt steps into this new phase, the emotive energy, genre‑blending innovation, and independent spirit he embodies positions him as a defining voice in South Africa’s next musical wave.
