A Bittersweet Farewell to an Iconic Duo
After captivating audiences for close to a decade with their emotive Afro House and Afro Tech sound, acclaimed South African production duo Deep Narratives have officially announced their split. The duo, made up of Khayelihle “Vertic” Ngcobo and Mpumelelo “Lelzin” Sithole, shared the news through a heartfelt statement on their social media platforms, marking the end of an era for one of the country’s most respected electronic acts.
“A Journey Marked by Creativity, Rhythm and Connection”
In their post, Deep Narratives reflected on their journey that began in Pietermaritzburg back in 2016 — a partnership built on rhythm, creativity, and brotherhood.
“After an incredible journey marked by creativity, rhythm and connection… we have unfortunately decided to part ways to pursue our individual paths,” they wrote.
The duo’s sound, known for its soulful and cinematic layers, transcended borders, blending emotional storytelling with intricate house production that resonated deeply within South Africa’s underground scene and beyond.
Vertic’s Departure and the Future of Deep Narratives
While the decision was mutual, the statement confirms that Vertic has chosen to leave the group to pursue a solo career.
“After much consideration and much effort to try resolve the situation, Vertic has made the decision and insists to no longer be part of Deep Narratives as he wishes to explore his solo career,” the duo explained.
Despite the split, Lelzin will continue to carry the Deep Narratives brand forward, with the message emphasizing that “Deep Narratives will always be his home.”

The duo expressed deep appreciation to their fans and peers who have supported them throughout their journey.
“We are deeply thankful for the endless love from our supporters — your energy and belief in our sound has made everything possible for us,” they shared.

“The Deep Narratives legacy remains one of authenticity, collaboration, and passion for music,” they noted. “Just like anything in life, change happens so great things can present themselves.”
